Recap: Willcox Cowboys vs. Morenci Wildcats
If the Willcox Cowboys were feeling good off their 62-32 takedown of the Santa Rita Eagles last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Willcox took a serious blow against Morenci on Tuesday, falling 68-37. Willcox has struggled against Morenci recently, as their contest on Tuesday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
Willcox lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being JD Whetten, who scored eight points along with two blocks. That's the first time this season that Whetten posted two or more blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Jovani Rodriguez, who scored six points along with three steals.
Willcox's defeat dropped their record down to 8-14. As for Morenci, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 19-3.
Willcox will head out on the road to square off against Tombstone at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Morenci, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Santa Rita at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Santa Rita comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
