Recap: Windsor Charter Academy Firebirds vs. Loveland Classical Lions

The Windsor Charter Academy Firebirds had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 22.3 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They escaped with a win against Loveland Classical by the margin of a single free throw, 63-62. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Windsor Charter Academy got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Dayton Long out in front who went 7 for 11 from beyond the arc en route to 21 points and 2 assists. Long also posted two blocks for the first time this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Drew Hay, who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds.
Several Lions players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Luke Sainz, who scored 16 points along with five steals. Sainz has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last five times he's played. Another player making a difference was Caedon Meyer, who scored 18 points.
Windsor Charter Academy pushed their record up to 10-1 with that victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.0 points per game. As for Loveland Classical, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-1.
Windsor Charter Academy will head out on the road to square off against Golden View Classical Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Golden View Classical Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 32 last Friday. As for Loveland Classical, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Nederland at 5:00 p.m. Nederland will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 326th, while Loveland Classical is ranked 78th).
