The Benton Tigers are taking a road trip to challenge the Montgomery Red Raiders at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Benton is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.

Benton proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by 12) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out Bloomsburg 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Tigers have posted since March 26, 2024.

Benton's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Seth Kolb, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.

Meanwhile, Montgomery narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Millville 16-14. The Red Raiders haven't had any issues with the Quakers recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.

Parker Bennett made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game.

In other batting news, Max Furman was a standout: he went 3-for-5 with seven RBI, three runs, and one stolen base. Those seven RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Victor Ottman, who went 4-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Benton's record now sits at 6-3. As for Montgomery, their record is now 8-2.

Benton couldn't quite get it done against Montgomery in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 as they fell 7-3. Can the Tigers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
