Millard South took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. They claimed a resounding 78-51 victory over Keokuk. Given the Patriots' advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 15th in Nebraska, while the Chiefs are ranked 92nd in Iowa), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Bernie Anderson was a one-man wrecking crew for Millard South as he went 6 of 10 from beyond the arc en route to 22 points and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Koby Meyers, who almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine boards.
Millard South smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in four consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Millard West can bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Tuesday. They walked away with a 65-55 win over Benson.
Millard South better keep an eye on Reece Carson. He was instrumental in Millard West's win, putting up 20 points. With that strong performance, Carson is now averaging an impressive 15.2 points per game. Another player making a difference was Jayden Kozney, who posted ten points.
Millard South's victory bumped their record up to 11-6. As for Millard West, their win bumped their record up to 5-7.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as the two teams are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Millard South hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 68.9 points per game. However, it's not like Millard West struggles in that department as they've been averaging 60.1 points. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Millard South was able to grind out a solid victory over Millard West in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, winning 69-59. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Carson, who put up 23 points and eight rebounds.
