Baseball Recap: Chartiers Valley Takes a Loss

Chartiers Valley had lost five straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 5-8 to make it six. They lost 8-1 to the Montour Spartans. The game snapped a strange streak: the last four times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.

Chartiers Valley saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Michael Switala, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.

As for Montour, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.9 runs over those games.

On Montour's side, Matteo Weber and Michael Ivanoff made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Weber pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Ivanoff struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. At bat, Weber got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base, while Ivanoff went 3-for-4 with two RBI. Weber is becoming a predictor of Montour's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 4-6 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Zander Stern was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Dalton Young, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Chartiers Valley will face off against West Allegheny at 4:15 p.m. on Friday. As for Montour, they will take on Central Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
