Baseball Recap: Greeley Central Comes Up Short

Greeley Central extended their losing streak to 15 on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 1-19 in the process. They lost 8-0 to the Greeley West Spartans. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Wildcats of the 12-2 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

As for Greeley West, the victory snapped their losing streak at five games and leaves them with a 6-16 record. They not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since March 11th (when they won 15-0).

For Greeley West's part, Luke Ramirez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 11 over seven innings pitched. Ramirez has become a key player for Greeley West: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most one hit, but 4-15 otherwise. Ramirez was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Elliott Leffler was excellent, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaiah Preciado, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Greeley Central will host Northridge at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Wildcats are facing the Grizzlies at the right time seeing as the Grizzlies are stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Greeley West, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Roosevelt at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. The Roughriders' pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so the Spartans' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
