Softball Game Preview: Ansonia Tigers vs. New Bremen Cardinals

The Ansonia Tigers are taking a road trip to challenge the New Bremen Cardinals at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Ansonia is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.

Ansonia was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last match, but they sure didn't let that happen against Mississinawa Valley on Thursday. The Tigers blew past the Blackhawks 8-2. The Tigers haven't had any issues with the Blackhawks recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.

Addie Geyer was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Geyer was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Shyann McKenna, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. Jayda Mangen also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, New Bremen was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They took a 5-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of Marion Local.

The victory got Ansonia back to even at 7-7. As for New Bremen, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-8.

New Bremen's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Ansonia has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.1 hits per game. It's a different story for New Bremen, though, as they've been averaging 10.6 hits. Given Ansonia's sizable advantage in that area, the Cardinals will need to find a way to close that gap.

Ansonia took their win against New Bremen in their previous meeting last Monday by a conclusive 12-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
