Baseball Recap: Thurston Victorious

While Thurston's victory against Ypsilanti wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Eagles narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Grizzlies 7-5. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Grizzlies recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

Kosta Haack made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out 15 batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits. Haack was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with four stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. He has become a key player for Thurston: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 0-4 otherwise.

Haack wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Xavier Gay, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Gay is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season. Another was Desmond Ferguson, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI.

Thurston's win bumped their record up to 3-4. As for Ypsilanti, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-4.

Coming up, Thurston will square off against Melvindale at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Ypsilanti, they will challenge Adrian at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
