Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Payton Dunn and EJ Mowery Lead Union Hill to Victory

Union Hill hadn't done well against Avinger recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Union Hill Bulldogs put the hurt on the Avinger Indians with a sharp 60-38 win. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Bulldogs have posted since December 21, 2024.

Union Hill was led to victory by EJ Mowery and Payton Dunn. Mowery dropped a double-double on 20 points and 12 rebounds, while Dunn almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten boards. The game was Mowery's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Eli Mendoza, who posted five points and nine rebounds.

Union Hill smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in December of 2024.

The win got Union Hill back to even at 10-10. As for Avinger, their defeat was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-21.

Union Hill will head out to face off against Sulphur Bluff at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Union Hill has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Avinger, they will host Bloomburg at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Avinger is facing Bloomburg at the right time seeing as Bloomburg is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
