Baseball Recap: South Decatur Makes It Four in a Row on the Road

South Decatur came out on top against Crothersville on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive 13-run second inning. The Cougars blew past the Tigers 17-7. Considering the Cougars have won five contests by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

The team relied heavily on Emmit McFarland, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high. Grady Scudder also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

South Decatur always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .543. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Crothersville only posted an OBP of .375.

South Decatur's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-9. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Crothersville, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-12.

Coming up, South Decatur will face off against North Decatur at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Chargers will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something the Cougars surely won't give up without a fight. As for Crothersville, they will square off against Indiana School for the Deaf at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Deaf Hoosiers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11 runs per game on average), something the Tigers will no doubt try to take advantage of.
