Volleyball Recap: Mt. Hope's Winning Streak Snapped at Six Games

It was a good run, but Mt. Hope unfortunately witnessed the end of their six-game winning streak on Wednesday. They took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Portsmouth Patriots. The contest marked the Huskies' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

While Mt. Hope had to settle for second, they sure made a game of it, scoring at least 18 points in every set they played. The final score came out to 25-23, 24-26, 25-18, 25-22.

Jacob Betres paced Mt. Hope's offense, picking up ten kills. Betres got some help from Dylan DeOliveira and his 34 assists. Finally, Gianfranco Semeraro-Bellanca and Matthew Moran kept the team grounded on defense, each having blocked three attacks.

Mt. Hope's loss dropped their record down to 16-3. As for Portsmouth, their win was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 16-2.

After both having extra time off, Mt. Hope and St. Raphael Academy will shake off the cobwebs and hit the court against one another at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Portsmouth, they have already played their next match, a 3-0 victory against Toll Gate on the 22nd.
