The Stuarts Draft Cougars will challenge the Miller School of Albemarle Mavericks at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Stuarts Draft is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.7 runs per game this season.
Stuarts Draft took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They blew past Staunton 23-2. The Cougars' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Karlee Layne and Addyson Dameron made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Layne tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Dameron tossed three innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. At bat, Layne went 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBI, while Dameron went 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. That stolen base was Dameron's first of the season.

In other batting news, Stuarts Draft got a massive performance out of Dakota Potter, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those four hits gave Potter a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Addy Coyner, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Stuarts Draft was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .556. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for Miller School of Albemarle's offense. They took a 4-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of Trinity Episcopal on Friday. The Mavericks just can't catch a break and have now endured three losses in a row.
Emelia DelCarmen spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits and racked up 11 Ks.
Stuarts Draft's win bumped their record up to 7-8. As for Miller School of Albemarle, they now have a losing record of 4-5.
Miller School of Albemarle's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Stuarts Draft hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .349.
