Preview: Mayfield Panthers vs. Notre Dame Bishop Gibbons Golden Knights
Mayfield has enjoyed the comforts of home their last three games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will face off against the Notre Dame Bishop Gibbons Golden Knights at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Even though Oppenheim-Ephratah/St. Johnsville scored an imposing 60 points on Tuesday, Mayfield still came out on top. Mayfield walked away with a 72-60 win over Oppenheim-Ephratah/St. Johnsville. The victory was just what Mayfield needed coming off of a 73-48 defeat in their prior matchup.
Mayfield can attribute much of their success to Cloey Dopp, who scored 27 points along with seven assists and five steals, and Brianna Iannuzzi, who scored 26 points along with two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Iannuzzi has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Abigail Chest, who scored six points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
In what's become a running theme this season, Notre Dame Bishop Gibbons gave their fans yet another huge win on Tuesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Canajoharie 50-22 at home. The victory was familiar territory for Notre Dame Bishop Gibbons who now have four in a row.
Mayfield now has a winning record of 10-9. As for Notre Dame Bishop Gibbons, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season.
Mayfield was dealt a bruising 75-43 defeat at the hands of Notre Dame Bishop Gibbons in their previous matchup back in December of 2023. Can Mayfield avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
