University is 2-8 against Westchester since February of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The University Wildcats will head out to face off against the Westchester Comets at 4:30 p.m.
University is headed into Thursday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their eighth straight game on Friday. They fell 55-46 to Venice. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 822nd, while the Gondoliers are ranked 311th).
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Orpheu Cummings, who went 6-for-10 on his way to 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jonah Hansen, who posted 11 points.
Meanwhile, Westchester came tearing into Wednesday's game with nine straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 28.4 points) and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Gondoliers 83-60. The matchup was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Comets had established a 22 point advantage.
Westchester pushed their record up to 17-9 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 77.3 points over those games. As for University, their loss dropped their record down to 9-14.
University took a serious blow against Westchester when the teams last played two weeks ago, falling 93-35. That contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point University was down 52-15.
