Baseball Recap: Corbin Finds Home Field Redemption Against Whitley County

There's no place like home for Corbin, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Monday. They walked away with a 6-2 win over the Whitley County Colonels on Tuesday. This was a revenge game for the Redhounds: when they faced off against the Colonels last Monday, they had to take a 4-0 defeat.

Kade Elam was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances. Corbin is undefeated when Elam posts two or more runs, but 4-7 otherwise.

In other pitching news, Cruz Cima looked comfortable as he tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Corbin is undefeated when he allows at most two walks, but 6-7 otherwise.

Elam wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jaden Broughton, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI. Trey Person also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Corbin has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Whitley County, the loss snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 12-3 record.

Corbin and Whitley County should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Kentucky Rankings. The Redhounds will challenge West Jessamine at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday with a big rank advantage (38 vs. 134). Meanwhile, Whitley County (ranked tenth) will meet Prestonsburg (ranked 143rd) at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.
