Recap: Dayton Pirates vs. Siuslaw Vikings
The Dayton Pirates put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They blew past Siuslaw 34-14. Considering Dayton has won eight games by more than 19 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Boston Hodges was his usual excellent self, rushing for 145 yards and four touchdowns on only eight carries, while also throwing for 59 yards and a touchdown. Hodges was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 65 yards. Another player making a difference was Zach Smith, who rushed for 111 yards.
Dayton's victory was their eighth straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 10-0. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-9 Jefferson and 1-8 Newport (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 41.2% over those games). As for Siuslaw, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-5 record this season.
Dayton will square off against Yamhill-Carlton at TBD on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Oregon (Yamhill-Carlton is ranked 80th, while Dayton is ranked 56th). Siuslaw does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
