Basketball Recap: Te'anaina Rivers Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat John Carroll Catholic

While Westwood didn't have the best season last year (they finished 6-17), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They snuck past the John Carroll Catholic Rams with a 49-43 victory on Monday. That's more bragging rights for the Panthers, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Westwood got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Te'Anaina Rivers out in front who posted 21 points. Shanell Sullivan was another key player, dropping a double-double on 11 points and ten steals.

Several Rams players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Madi Burrowes, who went 8 of 17 on her way to 23 points and three steals. Burrowes continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Olivia Laughlin, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 14 boards.

Westwood is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. As for John Carroll Catholic, their record is now 6-2.

Westwood will head out to face off against Jensen Beach at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for John Carroll Catholic, they will welcome Morningside Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
