Boyd County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 21st straight loss dating back to last season. They took a blow against the St. Mary's Cardinals, falling 74-43. One positive for the Spartans, at least, is that this was the most points they've scored all season.

Boyd County lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Jaylee Lechtenberg, who posted seven points and seven rebounds. Elly Zeisler was another key player, almost dropping a double-double with nine points and 14 boards.

St. Mary's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Pyper Ickes led the charge by going 9-for-17 to rack up 24 points in addition to six assists and five rebounds. Those 24 points gave Ickes a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Annabelle Barlow, who went 6-for-10 on her way to 16 points along with six steals and five boards.

Boyd County's defeat dropped their record down to 0-20. As for St. Mary's, they pushed their record up to 21-1 with the win, which was their 17th straight at home dating back to last season.

Boyd County has already played their next match, a 52-30 loss against Niobrara/Verdigre on the 14th. As for St. Mary's, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 42-32 victory against West Holt on the 13th.
