Softball Recap: Whitmer Comes Up Short

Whitmer extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping them down to 12-9. They came up short against the Perrysburg Yellow Jackets, falling 8-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Yellow Jackets this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 7-6 back in April.

Whitmer saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ryleigh Hannibal, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

As for Perrysburg, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-11. Considering they have won nine contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

On Perrysburg's side, Maddie Von Sacken made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over eight innings pitched. Von Sacken has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Yesenia You, who went 3-for-5 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Sophie Halm, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with two RBI.

Coming up, Whitmer will challenge Anthony Wayne at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Generals have averaged an impressive 7.6 runs per game this season. As for Perrysburg, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Lorain at 5:00 p.m.
