Recap: Barstow Aztecs vs. Silverado Hawks
The Barstow Aztecs had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 18 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They had just enough and edged Silverado out 14-12. Given Barstow's advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 217th, while Silverado is ranked 445th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Barstow's defense made their presence known, laying out the QB seven times. The heavy lifting was done by Drelyn Brown and Samuelu Tofaeono who racked up 4.5 sacks between them.
Silverado's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performance. Perhaps the best among them was Jace Weiss, who threw for 187 yards and two touchdowns. Sire Foster was another key contributor, picking up 94 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Barstow's victory bumped their record up to 7-2. As for Silverado, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-9.
Barstow will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Granite Hills at 7:00 p.m. Granite Hills will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak. As for Silverado, they will head out on the road to face off against Victor Valley at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Victor Valley is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak.
