Baseball Recap: Camp Verde Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Camp Verde took a 19-run defeat the last time they faced off against Phoenix Country Day, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Camp Verde Cowboys came out on top in a nail-biter against the Phoenix Country Day Eagles on Tuesday, sneaking past 5-4. The victory was some much needed relief for the Cowboys as it spelled an end to their ten-game losing streak dating back to last season.

Gunner Selting was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing Three bases. while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Nolan Hicks, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and three RBI. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in hits. Another player making a difference was Wyatt Mulcaire, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-1.

Camp Verde's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-4. As for Phoenix Country Day, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 1-4.
