Softball Recap: Saturday's Defeat Ends Boyd County's Winning Streak

Boyd County dropped their record down to 21-12 on Saturday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins. They came up short against the South Warren Spartans, falling 10-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Lions have suffered since April 13, 2024.

As for South Warren, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 14 of their last 15 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 25-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games.

For South Warren's part, they got a massive performance out of McLaine Hudson, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and one stolen base. Hudson is on a roll when it comes to home runs, as she's now launched at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Aubreann Russell also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Looking ahead, Boyd County will be playing in front of their home fans against Johnson Central on Monday. The Lions' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Golden Eagles have averaged an impressive 7.5 runs per game this season. As for South Warren, they will challenge Meade County at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. The last four games the Green Waves have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
