Softball Recap: Hawkins Takes Down Rivercrest in a Playoff Battle

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Hawkins walked away with it. Everything went their way against the Rivercrest Rebels on Saturday as they made off with a 9-1 win. This was a revenge game for the Hawks: when they faced off against the Rebels on Saturday, they had to take a 4-2 loss.

Kalyn Ellison spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on seven hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Taetum Smith, who went 2-for-4 with four stolen bases, four runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Karsyn Johnson, who went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

Hawkins has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 18-11-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Rivercrest, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-12.

Looking ahead, Hawkins will face off against Mildred at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Rivercrest does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
