Basketball Recap: Fairland Takes Down Waynesville in a Playoff Battle

Fairland had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They came out on top against the Waynesville Spartans by a score of 59-46 on Wednesday. Given the Dragons' advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 30th in Ohio, while the Spartans are ranked 93rd in Ohio), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Fairland to victory, but perhaps none more so than Addison Godby, who dropped a double-double with 14 points and ten rebounds. Godby also grabbed five steals, which is notable because Fairland is undefeated when she posts at least three steals, but 4-5 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Bailey Russell, who went 6-for-13 on her way to 17 points.

The victory (which was Fairland's third in a row) raised their record to 20-5. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.3 points over those games. As for Waynesville, the loss snapped their winning streak at nine games and leaves them with a 21-5 record.

Coming up, Fairland will challenge Versailles at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. Versailles will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something Fairland surely won't give up without a fight. Waynesville does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
