League recap: Salpointe Catholic tops Notre Dame Prep to extend winning streak

Salpointe Catholic extended the longest winning streak in II Section II this week by beating Notre Dame Prep, 45-9. The victory was the 11th in a row for the Lancers.

Ironwood Ridge led the league in scoring this week after putting up 52 points on Prescott. Tyler Williams threw for 203 yards and one touchdown and ran for 100 yards in the win.

The Nighthawks' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. On the ground Anthony Braunreiter chipped in 130 yards. Jake Matthews helped Ironwood Ridge's passing attack out by catching four balls for 72 yards.

John Klass was the best wideout in the league this week as Ironwood Ridge topped the Badgers. Klass tallied two receptions for 87 yards.

Santa Rita's Gary Uselton and Elijah Anderson have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading II Section II in both passing and receiving yards. Uselton has thrown for 2005 yards this season, while Anderson, a 5-foot-11 receiver, has 56 catches for 971 yards. Kevionte Alexander from Rincon leads the league in rushing with 1646 yards.

Accruing a total of 14 touchdowns this year, Adriell Alvarado has thrown for 1920 yards with two interceptions.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when Salpointe Catholic takes on Mountain View. Dennis Bene's team is currently in first, while the Mountain Lions are in third.

Mountain View made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 2,318 from 2,542. The advance stemmed from a 19-17 victory over Cienega last week.
