Softball Recap: Keystone Heights Indians vs. Newberry Panthers
Keystone Heights and Newberry squared off in some playoff action on Thursday, but Keystone Heights had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Panthers by a score of 4-3. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 8-6 back in February.

Kadence Massey was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She struck out nine batters over 7.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run.
Massey wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Amberlea Wagner, who went 2-for-4 with one RBI.
Keystone Heights has also been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last 12 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-16 record this season. As for Newberry, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 20-5.
