Basketball Recap: Laguna Acoma Now 4-1 over Last Five Games

If Sandia Prep wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Laguna Acoma, they should've done a better job of containing Gianna Carrillo. The Laguna Acoma Hawks claimed a resounding 53-18 win over the Sandia Prep Sundevils thanks in part to Carrillo, who posted 15 points. She has been hot, having posted 15 or more points the last seven times she's played.

Despite the defeat, Sandia Prep had strong showings from Maddy Weisler, who put up five points in addition to six boards and three steals, and Ella Volkman, who had four points and five rebounds.

Laguna Acoma is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a massive bump to their 9-6 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.2 points per game. As for Sandia Prep, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-9.

The timing is sure in Laguna Acoma's favor as the team sits on four straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Dulce has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road.
