Basketball Recap: Shanel Sutton and Elisabeth Kirkland Secure Win for Cape Fear

Cape Fear proved they can win big last Tuesday (they won by 35) and on Saturday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged the Hillside Hornets out 52-49.

Cape Fear was led to victory by Elisabeth Kirkland and Shanel Sutton. Kirkland almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine rebounds, while Sutton dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds. Those 17 points gave Kirkland a new career-high. Emily Harris was another key player, putting up eight points and three steals.

Hillside lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Kynnedy Roberts, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 11 rebounds. Roberts is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Mckenzy Green, who posted 16 points and six rebounds.

Cape Fear's record now sits at 2-0. As for Hillside, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-3.

Cape Fear didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 67-31 victory against Triton on the 3rd. As for Hillside, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 56-52 loss against Cardinal Gibbons on the 5th.
