The Nativity BVM Green Wave are taking a road trip to face off against the Allentown Central Catholic Vikings at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Nativity BVM took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. Everything went their way against Mahanoy Area as they made off with a 10-1 victory. The Green Wave haven't had any issues with the Golden Bears recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.
RYAN GRABOWSKI spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on one hit and racked up six Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, STEPHEN KARINCH and RYAN EXAMITIS did most of the damage at the plate: KARINCH got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while EXAMITIS got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI. Those two RBI gave KARINCH a new career-high. NICK CLARKE also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Allentown Central Catholic). They were the clear victors by a 17-2 margin over Louis E. Dieruff on Friday. The victory was familiar territory for the Vikings, who have now won three matches in a row.
Allentown Central Catholic let Matthew Rader and Michael Martinez run wild. Rader fired off two home runs and four RBI while going 2-for-2, while Martinez went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Aidan Sorrentino was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Allentown Central Catholic kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.5 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 8.8.
Nativity BVM's record now sits at 4-10. As for Allentown Central Catholic, their record is now 11-5.
Nativity BVM couldn't quite get it done against Allentown Central Catholic in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 as they fell 6-3. Can the Green Wave avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
