Volleyball Recap: Mattoon Comes Up Short

Mattoon was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were a single set away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-1 heartbreaker at the hands of the Mt. Zion Braves. The Greenwave were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Braves apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in October of 2024.

In a back-and-forth that saw neither team win consecutive sets, Mattoon sadly dropped the once that decided the match. The final score came out to 25-18, 22-25, 25-22.

Addy Rotz was the offensive standout of the game as she had 12 digs.

Mattoon's loss dropped their record down to 6-10. As for Mt. Zion, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season.

Mattoon will welcome Taylorville at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Mt. Zion, they will venture away from home to take on Monticello at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
