Basketball Recap: St. Georges Tech Comes Up Short

St. Georges Tech fought the good fight in their overtime match against Salesianum on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell to the Salesianum Sallies 65-59. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Hawks of the 50-43 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2015.

Despite the loss, St. Georges Tech still got an impressive performance from Joshua Obiora, who dropped a double-double with 24 points and 19 rebounds. Obiora is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down eight or more in each of the last 13 games he's played. Emory Womack was another key player, going 6-for-12 on his way to 14 points in addition to five assists and three steals.

Even though they lost, St. Georges Tech smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in six consecutive games.

St. Georges Tech's defeat dropped their record down to 14-5. As for Salesianum, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-11 record this season.

Coming up, it'll be a Battle of the Birds when the Hawks challenge the Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Salesianum, they will head out to take on Dover at 1:00 p.m. on Monday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Dover comes in on eight and Salesianum on five.
