Softball Game Preview: Arlington Eagles vs. Jackson Timberwolves

The Arlington Eagles are taking a road trip to take on the Jackson Timberwolves at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Arlington's pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so Jackson's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

On Tuesday, Arlington came up short against Kamiak and fell 7-4.

Peyton Aanstad spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and five unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Grace Boekenoogen and Kylie Nuyen stepped up to the plate in a big way. Boekenoogen went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one double, while Nuyen went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That double was Nuyen's first of the season.

Kamiak hit Jackson with a four-run seventh inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Timberwolves lost 6-0 to the Knights.

Jackson also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Clara Dorgan gave up six earned runs on seven hits and racked up eight Ks.

Jackson's defeat dropped their record down to 6-8. As for Arlington, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 6-8.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Arlington has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 11.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Jackson struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.5 strikeouts.
