Softball Recap: Independence Extends Winning Streak to Four

Independence had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.7 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Tuesday. They never let the Cuthbertson Cavaliers get on the board and left with a 5-0 victory. This was payback for the Patriots, who suffered a 9-1 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Maliyah Alexander was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Seven Hope, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs. That home run was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Emma Wrangham, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

Independence's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Cuthbertson, their loss ended a five-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 5-1.

Coming up, Independence will square off against Providence at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Cuthbertson, they will challenge Ardrey Kell at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
