Preview: Armwood Hawks vs. Lennard Longhorns
Armwood has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will challenge the Lennard Longhorns at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.
Last Wednesday, Armwood was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 54-49 to Bloomingdale. While losing is never fun, Armwood can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 586th, while Bloomingdale is ranked 248th).
Despite the defeat, Armwood had strong showings from Talon Mckinnie, who scored 18 points, and Abe Diallo, who scored nine points along with ten rebounds. That's the first time this season that Diallo pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Henry Morgan, who scored eight points.
Meanwhile, Lennard was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Wednesday as they fell 50-46 to East Bay. Lennard has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Armwood has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost ten of their last 11 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-16 record this season. As for Lennard, their loss dropped their record down to 7-13.
Armwood didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Lennard in their previous meeting back in November of 2023, but they still walked away with a 59-54 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Armwood since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
