Baseball Game Preview: Sudan Hornets vs. Petersburg Buffaloes

The Sudan Hornets will head out on the road to square off against the Petersburg Buffaloes at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Sudan's pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so Petersburg's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Sudan's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They blew past Petersburg 18-0. The result was nothing new for the Hornets, who have now won seven games by 12 runs or more so far this season.

Caleb Groetken made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). Furthermore, he didn't allow a single earned run, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in March of 2024. He was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs, six RBI, and three runs while going 3-for-3. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kincaid Boehning, who went 1-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Aybran Granados was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

Sudan always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .750. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Petersburg only posted an OBP of .222.

Sudan is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. Petersburg is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-4.

Saturday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Sudan has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .596. However, it's not like Petersburg struggles in that department as they've averaged .500. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
