Baseball Game Preview: Honeoye Falls-Lima Cougars vs. Wayland-Cohocton Eagles

The Honeoye Falls-Lima Cougars will head out to take on the Wayland-Cohocton Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Honeoye Falls-Lima is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Greece Arcadia 8-2 on Monday. The Cougars not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since May 22, 2024 (when they won 7-0).

Honeoye Falls-Lima got a great performance from Mitchell Martini as he struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Martini has become a key player for the Cougars: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least eight strikeouts, but 3-14 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Conor Finn was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob Weber, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Meanwhile, Wayland-Cohocton came tearing into Monday's match with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4.8 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 6-5 W against the Golden Gophers. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Honeoye Falls-Lima has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-15 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Wayland-Cohocton, their victory was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-4.

Honeoye Falls-Lima beat Wayland-Cohocton 4-0 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
