Basketball Game Preview: Memorial Mustangs vs. Stratford Spartans

The Memorial Mustangs will face off against the Stratford Spartans at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.

On Friday, Memorial didn't have too much trouble with Jersey Village as they won 66-51. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Mustangs.

Meanwhile, you're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter, and that's exactly how it played out for Stratford on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that they blew Cypress Ridge out of the water with a 61-29 final score. Given the Spartans' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 371st, while the Rams are ranked 790th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Stratford's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-15. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.0 points per game. As for Memorial, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 11-16.

Memorial couldn't quite finish off Stratford when the teams last played back in January and fell 42-40. Can Memorial avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
