Basketball Game Preview: Lawrence Academy Warriors vs. Pungo Christian Academy Raiders

Lawrence Academy and Pungo Christian Academy are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2022, but not for long. The Lawrence Academy Warriors will host the Pungo Christian Academy Raiders at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Lawrence Academy's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last eight matches.

Lawrence Academy is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Ridgecroft just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They took a 68-61 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Rams.

Lawrence Academy might have lost, but man, Nike Wiggins was a machine: he went 13 for 25 on his way to 34 points in addition to six rebounds and five steals. The contest was Wiggins' eighth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Carter Hoggard, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 14 boards.

Even though they lost, Lawrence Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in five consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, Pungo Christian Academy strolled past Northeast Academy with points to spare on Thursday, taking the game 67-48. The Raiders pushed the score to 53-31 by the end of the third, a deficit the Eagles cut but never quite recovered from.

Pungo Christian Academy's victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 7-11. As for Lawrence Academy, their defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 7-8.

Lawrence Academy won a game that couldn't have been any closer in their previous matchup back in December of 2024, slipping by Pungo Christian Academy 64-63.
