Soccer Game Preview: Poquoson vs. Lafayette

The Poquoson Islanders will head out on the road to take on the Lafayette Rams at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Poquoson came into their game on Friday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 4-1 to Warhill. Poquoson have struggled against Warhill recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost meeting.

Meanwhile, Lafayette didn't have quite enough to beat Grafton on Thursday and fell 3-2. While losing is never fun, Lafayette can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia soccer rankings (they are ranked 86th, while Grafton are ranked 19th).

Poquoson's defeat dropped their record down to 4-7-1. As for Lafayette, they now have a losing record of 4-5-2.

Poquoson suffered a grim 4-0 defeat to Lafayette when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Islanders avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
