Baseball Recap: Floydada Drops Season-High Score on Quanah

Floydada's game last Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. Everything went their way against the Quanah Indians as they made off with an 18-8 win. The Whirlwinds' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Adrian Martinez was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Floydada is 3-1 when Martinez posts two or more runs, but 2-6 otherwise.

In other batting news, Eliazar Martinez was incredible, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. JP Lopez was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing three bases.

Floydada always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .619. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Floydada's victory bumped their record up to 5-7. As for Quanah, they dropped their record down to 2-7 with the defeat, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Floydada will take on Lockney at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Longhorns will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Whirlwinds surely won't give up without a fight. As for Quanah, they are taking a road trip to challenge Clarendon at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Broncos have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.33 runs per game on average), something the Indians will no doubt try to take advantage of.
