Basketball Game Preview: Gateway Eagles vs. Fort Myers Green Wave

The Gateway Eagles and the Fort Myers Green Wave will face off at 9:00 a.m. on Friday without much rest having both just played. Gateway is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.4 points per game this season.

Gateway saw some tournament action on Thursday. They fell just short of Seacrest Country Day by a score of 50-48.

Despite the defeat, Gateway got top-tier performance from Thatiyana Holiday, who went 6 for 11 on her way to 20 points and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of V'Davrielle Johnson, who went 5 of 7 on her way to 10 points and three steals.

Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Fort Myers' good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. 2025 welcomed they with a 65-41 loss courtesy of Donahue Catholic. While losing is never fun, the Green Wave can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 309th, while the Shamrocks are ranked 138th).

Fort Myers' loss dropped their record down to 7-5. As for Gateway, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-4.

Everything came up roses for Gateway against Fort Myers in their previous matchup back in December of 2024, as the team secured a 58-17 victory. Does Gateway have another victory up their sleeve, or will Fort Myers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
