Baseball Recap: Tanque Verde Hawks vs. Cholla Chargers

After flying high against Bisbee last Saturday, Tanque Verde came back down to earth. The Tanque Verde Hawks fell just short of the Cholla Chargers by a score of 8-7 on Wednesday. Tanque Verde was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Cholla apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2023.

Gavin Lyski and Beck Caballero did some serious damage despite the final result: Lyski went 3-for-4 with three RBI and a double, while Caballero scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

On Cholla's side, Sebastian Silvain was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching an inning while giving up no earned runs off two hits (he also didn't allow any walks). Silvain was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.

In other batting news, Michael Corales was excellent, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Carlos Alvarez, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Tanque Verde's defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-7-1. As for Cholla, their record now sits at 5-9.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Tanque Verde is on the road again on Tuesday to play Empire at 6:00 p.m. As for Cholla, they will take on Mountain View at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. Cholla is facing Mountain View at the right time seeing as Mountain View is stuck on a five-game losing streak.
