Basketball Recap: Cottage Triumphs

After losing to Howard the last time they met, Cottage decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Cottage Cougars escaped with a win on Tuesday against the Howard Hawks by the margin of a single free throw, 51-50.

Cottage's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Maxwell Lagan led the charge by dropping a double-double on 22 points and 13 rebounds. Lagan is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jackson Barnes, who posted 13 points in addition to seven boards and six assists.

Despite the loss, Howard saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Michael Davis put up 29 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Keegan Roberts, who scored 13 points.

Cottage is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 5-11 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.0 points per game. As for Howard, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-5.

Cottage has already played their next game, a 43-40 loss against Varsity Opponent on the 31st. As for Howard, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 63-42 win against Atlanta Area School for the Deaf on the 29th.
