Basketball Recap: Wednesday's Defeat Ends Ellet's Winning Streak

If Ellet was riding high fresh off their 65-37 takedown of Buchtel on Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Orangemen took a 53-48 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cleveland Heights Tigers on Wednesday. The matchup was a 22-22 toss-up at halftime, but the Orangemen couldn't quite close it out.

Ellet lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Kenadie Keith, who posted 13 points. Keith is also crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Alivia Russel also deserves some recognition as she posted her first blocks of the season.

Cleveland Heights got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Dayvon Evans out in front who dropped a double-double with 15 points and 13 boards. Those 13 rebounds gave Evans a new career-high. Paige Swoope was another key player, putting up 16 points and five assists.

With the loss, Ellet broke their six-game winning streak and moved their record to 6-2. As for Cleveland Heights, their win was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-2.

Ellet wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 71-35 victory against North on the 18th. As for Cleveland Heights, they have also already played their next game, a 55-49 defeat against John Hay on the 18th.
