Recap: Corner Canyon Chargers vs. Wasatch Wasps
On Tuesday, the Corner Canyon Chargers faced the Wasatch Wasps in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Corner Canyon snuck past Wasatch with a 57-53 win. The victory was just what Corner Canyon needed coming off of a 75-34 loss in their prior game.
Leading Corner Canyon to victory were Elina Mortensen and Maia Rhay. Mortensen scored 15 points along with nine rebounds, while Rhay scored 23 points along with seven rebounds and five steals. That makes it nine consecutive games in which Mortensen has scored at least 25% of Corner Canyon's points. Another player making a difference was Lexi LeRoy, who scored eight points.
Ashley Garner and Peyton Behnke certainly did their best on Tuesday to try and avoid the loss. Garner scored 20 points along with nine rebounds, while Behnke scored 20 points along with five steals. The game was Garner's 13th in a row with at least ten points.
Corner Canyon has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season. As for Wasatch, their loss ended a seven-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 10-3.
Corner Canyon will take on Riverton at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Riverton will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Utah Rankings (they are ranked 77th, while Corner Canyon is ranked 20th). As for Wasatch, they will head out on the road to face off against Cedar Valley at 5:15 p.m. on Friday.
