Football Recap: Denver East Angels vs. Vista PEAK Prep Bison
Denver East was the 42-12 winner over Vista PEAK Prep when they last played one another back in August of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Angels took a blow against the Bison on Thursday, falling 48-21.
Several Angels players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Declan Macdonald, who threw for 199 yards on 20 of 39 attempts, and also punched in one TD on the ground. 110 of Macdonald's passing yards were hauled in by James Pillivant.
Vista PEAK Prep got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Canaan Barthlow out in front who threw for 254 yards and four touchdowns while completing 81.2% of his passes. Those four passing touchdowns gave Barthlow a new career-high. Derion Breaux helped Barthlow out on the ground, rushing for 98 yards and a pair of scores.
Denver East's loss dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Vista PEAK Prep, the win got them back to even at 1-1.
Denver East will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Liberty at 4:00 p.m. on the 12th. As for Vista PEAK Prep, they will head out on the road to take on Overland at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
