Baseball Game Preview: Tell City Marksmen vs. Hancock County Hornets

The Tell City Marksmen will venture away from home to face off against the Hancock County Hornets at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Tell City has three straight wins, Hancock County has nine straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Tell City had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 22-run drubbing they dealt Cannelton on Monday. The Marksmen put the hurt on the Bulldogs with a sharp 26-4 victory. That looming 26-4 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Marksmen yet this season.

Tell City got a massive performance out of Landon Sandage, who went 4-for-5 with three runs and four RBI. Sandage has become a key player for the Marksmen: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 1-5 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Liam O'Malley, who went 3-for-5 with four runs and two RBI.

Tell City hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in three consecutive matchups.

Apollo hit Hancock County with a six-run sixth inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Hornets lost 10-0 to the Eagles.

Hancock County's defeat dropped their record down to 5-14. As for Tell City, their record now sits at 4-5.

Tell City couldn't quite finish off Hancock County in their previous matchup back in March of 2024 and fell 5-3. Can the Marksmen avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
