Softball Recap: Thatcher Triumphs

Thatcher pushed their score to six the last time they played Morenci, but on Friday they couldn't quite do it again. Thatcher came out on top in a nail-biter against Morenci, sneaking past 1-0. This was payback for the Eagles, who suffered a 16-6 loss the last time these two teams met.

The result came thanks to Alyna Peru's shutout, as she gave up just seven hits and racked up seven Ks. Those hits were her first of the season.

At the plate, Thatcher saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brynlee Montoya, who went 3-for-4 with one double. Those three hits gave Montoya a new career-high.

Thatcher now has a winning record of 8-7. As for Morenci, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-6.

Coming up, Thatcher will be playing in front of their home fans against Pusch Ridge Christian Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The match will give Thatcher their first taste of in-conference action this season. As for Morenci, they are taking a road trip to face off against Tombstone at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
