Recap: Leesville Road Pride vs. Cardinal Gibbons Crusaders
After a string of three wins, the Leesville Road Pride's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. The matchup between them and Cardinal Gibbons wasn't particularly close, with Leesville Road falling 64-50. Leesville Road found out winning isn't easy when you don't work as a unit and post nine fewer assists than your opponent.
Leesville Road lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Molly Zuburg, who scored 17 points along with four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Zuburg has scored all season. Mattie Matonic was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Cardinal Gibbons' win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tessa Gladieux, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten assists. Gladieux is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last eight games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Charlotte Fusco, who scored 21 points along with three steals.
Leesville Road's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-5. As for Cardinal Gibbons, their victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-7.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Leesville Road will take on Enloe at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Enloe comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 25 points in their last ten games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse. As for Cardinal Gibbons, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Sanderson at 6:00 p.m. Cardinal Gibbons has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.
