Basketball Recap: Irwin County Wins Going Away Against Charlton County

Irwin County won the last time they faced Charlton County and things went their way on Friday too. The Irwin County Indians took down the Charlton County Indians 48-34. Irwin County pushed the score to 41-21 by the end of the third, a deficit Charlton County cut but never quite recovered from.

Irwin County had a senior duo take command as Jaylen Martin went 6 for 13 en route to 14 points along with eight boards and four steals and Sam Guy almost dropped a double-double with 11 points and nine rebounds. Guy is also on a roll when it comes to blocks, as he's now posted two or more in the last 12 games he's played. Tyon Jones was another key player, putting up eight points and five boards.

Irwin County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in four consecutive matches.

Charlton County's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Jack Braddock, who posted nine points, and Jakob Thigpen, who put up six points. What's more, Braddock also racked up two blocks, the most he's had since back in December of 2023.

Irwin County is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-13 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.3 points over those games. As for Charlton County, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-17.
